In an interview with The Mirror, Bruce said that “smashing a beautiful and shining jet plane was a pointless tragedy and a profound failure of the human imagination.” He reported that some people might think it was strange and lonely living alone in the woods on an old plane, but that was perfectly normal for him. He noted that the planes “have an engineering elegance not found in other structures in which humans can live.”

Although he never had a definite plan for the interior of Boeing Airbus, he was fascinated by the vision when he entered. “The next time you get on a jet plane, close your eyes for a moment and picture it in your mind removing all the seats, all the other people,” he told Business Insider. Indeed, like the castle, Campbell’s plane-turned-house is supported by concrete pillars and also has its own driveway that connects to nearby Hillsboro, Oregon. To access Bruce’s Boeing home, one has to climb the original folding stairs, as many passengers do when flying around the world.
