This epic American historical and romance film was way ahead of its setting in terms of technological advancement. In one scene, we see the movie\’s moral center, Melanie, holding a lamp, and its electric cable was sadly obvious.

This sort of lamp was invented around the 1870\’s-the 80s, after the civil war in which this movie was set.

We understand where the temptation to use this lamp came from. Electric lamps are pretty efficient. Plug it in, and voila! The room lights up. Who would choose a lamp oil over this?
