This Snake Does Something No Human Should Have To Witness

Russell’s Viper

Thousands of deaths recorded annually in Asia have been credited to Russell’s viper. This snake makes the cut in the ‘big four’ venomous snakes of India as they are known, and this species particularly got its name from Patrick Russel, a herpetologist who first wrote about it in his book in 1796. These snakes primarily live in urbanized areas, as they love to feed on rodents and live closely with humans. When it comes to their warning behavior or threat display, they coil their body in an s-like loop and hiss. It is also worthy of note that the hiss of Russell’s viper has been recorded to be the loudest from a snake yet. The venom from its bite can cause severe pain and several other complications due to its potency. Still, early access to antivenom and good medical treatment can help reduce or prevent most of the effects. Lastly, do not try to pick up a Russell viper if you are not an expert. They react very violently to this. I mean, who wouldn’t want it when they realize they’re likely going to be put in a cage?
