From a budget of $60.72 million, this movie became the ninth highest-grossing film in China, with over half a billion recorded in numbers. The Mermaid was released in China in February 2016. It set many box office records, including the biggest opening day and single-day gross through its seventh day with exactly $553.8 million in the box office.
